Back with the Vets today for my poor sow. It was a home visit in the morning for an assessment and then me off to the vets this afternoon to chat and pick up any needed medications. And so i came home yet another $120 poorer. Being just after sunset i decided to feed everyone before losing the light completely but low and behold then was a darkness in the corner of the Agouti cage and the perception of movement. by the light of my phone sat a single massive baby. A crested golden Agouti weighing in at 143g! Full of elation I fed the rest and put them to bed then went downstairs to deal with Savannah.
She too had finally delivered her babies, a still born, one that died with the sack over its face and two alive in opposite corners. The cage was a mess and it was clear that it had been a horrendously painful birth. I cleaned up what i could and was greatful to now be able to medicate Savannah without restraint but come 9:30 i felt confidant that she had no interest in the babies that survived.
Sandra was brought in with her single impressive mass and the two argentes were put with her after a feed of diVentilac to hold them over. One of the argentes is only 47g. When they are this small there isn't much I can do to help but I managed to get .6 of a ml into it.
fingers are crossed for this tiny baby and i count my blessings for Sandra and her miracle mass.
